Imam Reza’s (A.S.) Dar al-Shafa is one of the most important endowments of Astan Quds Razavi. This five hundred-year-old endowment is now considered as one of the most significant medical centers of the province.
Imam’s (A.S.) Dar al-Shafa is one of the endowments of Hazrat Reza (A.S.) and it dates back to the Safavid era.
There are some documents, at Astan Quds Razavi’s management of documents and press affairs, which are related to Imam Reza’s (A.S.) Dar al-Shafa as the oldest medical center of Mashhad. These documents include those from Safavid era up to Qajar dynasty.
According to the existing documents, Dar al-Shafa of Imam Reza (A.S.) has offered various services, during different historical periods, to this Imam’s (A.S.) pilgrims. However, there is no doubt that peak of these services belongs to the years after the glorious victory of the Islamic Revolution.
Thanks to Astan Quds Razavi for its great efforts, Imam Reza’s (A.S.) Dar al-Shafa has had a magnificent growth in its services to the pilgrims of Hazrat Reza (A.S.), during the years after the victory of Islamic Revolution.
These endeavors have changed Dar al-Shafa from a simple medical center to a highly equipped one which is offering its services to hundreds of thousands of Razavi pilgrims and also Mashhad’s citizens.
After the victory of the Islamic Revolution, initial opening of Imam Reza’s (A.S.) Dar al-Shafa was happened near the current gate of Navab Safavid (in front of the Holy Shrine’s banquet hall) and in a 900-square-meter land. This medical center had a 2700-square-meter building. The first Dar al-Shafa had three floors and it was opened coincident with Eid al-Fitr on August 12, 1980.
After 29 years of giving services and as a result of growth in the number of Razavi pilgrims, Dar al-Shafa’s new building was constructed at the beginning of Shirazi Street (Holy Shrine’s U-turn, Sheikh Tousi Gate) concurrent with Ghadir Eid and on the December 3, 2009. This new building came into operation with four floors and a space of 4939 square meters.
New and updated medical equipment such as color Doppler in radiology section, cardiac echocardiography, endoscopy, spirometry, audiological devices, advanced equipment related to emergency cases, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) have been employed in the new building.
At the moment, nursing, radiology, laboratory, pharmacy, dentistry, electroencephalography (EEG), Optometry, audiology test, and midwifery are the active wards of Imam Reza (A.S.) Dar al-Shafa. An average number of three thousand people take the advantages of Dar al-Shafa’s different sections and wards.
Dar al-Shafa which is doing its activities under the management of Astan Quds Razavi’s Medical Institution has been able to show an acceptable record in the area of the society’s health, employing translators to have better communication with the foreign patients and also offering some discounts for the poor.
Some new sections and departments have been added to the Dar al-Shafa in the recent years, with the purpose of offering the best kinds of services to the Razavi pilgrims.
Dialysis, chemotherapy and physiotherapy are some of these sections which have been built by using the incomes of some endowments.
