President of the UAE Jebel Ali Free Zone said that for developing economic and trade ties with Iran ‘we do not wait for possible nuclear agreement with Group 5+1’.
Ahmad bin Sulayem during his visit to Qeshm free zone area on Wednesday told IRNA that the United Arab Emirates has long history of trade with Iran and added that in the current situation ‘we are following development of interactions and joint economic projects with Iran’.
He announced the assessment of Iran’s free zones capacities, and said that considering huge capacities of Iran’s free trade zones in different fields of industry, trade and tourism, it is possible to perform suitable programs in these fields.
Head of UAE ‘ DP World’ company said that during past 25 years he had visited Qeshm Island for many times and added that in the direction of development of trade relations, he is visiting again Iran’s free zones to offer good planning for joint cooperation development.
Bin Sulayem called for development of trade activities specially through road transit and added that one of recent approaches of UAE is this issue and that Iran because of its special and strategic position in the region can play important role in this arena.
Upon our assessment, Iran has done a great job on development of roads, which can be useful in the field of trade promotion ties with the UAE.
He underlined that the old Silk Road should be revived again and in this field using trade ways of Iran’s south-north axis are the most key approaches.
By reviving the route, international trade in the region will increase noticeably for sure, he added.
The economic delegations from UAE are considering capacities of Iran’s free trade zones for investment of 500 to one billion dollars during a 3-day visit to Iran.
The group are here upon invitation of President Advisor Akbar Turkan, who is also secretary of High Council of Free Zones in the country.
