Eighteen new mines were discovered and readied for exploitation in Khorasan Razavi Province in the first quarter of the current Iranian year.Said by the head of Industries, Mining and Trade Organization of the province.
“About 7.15 million tons of mineral reserves were discovered in the 18 mines located in the cities of Khwaf, Torbat-e Jam, Torbat-e Heydarieh, Mashhad, Gonabad, Nishabour and Sabzevar, for exploitation of which 76 billion rials were invested by the private sector,” Razieh Alirezaei was quoted by IRNA as saying.
According to Alirezaei, these mines contain copper ore, placer iron ore, sand and gravel, chromite, rubble stone and limestone.
The official added that 17 mineral exploration licenses were issued during the same period with a 14-billion-rial investment for 156 kilometers of mining area in Khorasan Razavi.
“There are currently 695 mines with 10,000 miners in Khorasan Razavi Province extracting 27 million tons of minerals annually, 95% of which were launched by private sector investments,” she noted.
